Students shine at Philosophy conference
A number of students from Year 10, together with Mrs Nightingale, recently attended a Philosophy and Ethics conference in Stockton. The conference, led by Dr Peter Vardy encouraged students to engage with the challenging philosophical concept of ‘What does it mean to be human?‘. Students examined this idea through the themes of genetics, new reproductive technology, human rights and the sanctity of life vs. quality of life. The students took to the challenge with a great deal of gusto. Serious debate and discussion were the order of the day, with a key focus on being able to justify opinions and explore different viewpoints. Concepts that the students can hopefully now apply to their GCSE studies.
