Night of Science Captivates audience

British Science Week at Cardinal Hume was celebrated this year with a spectacular fireworks display to cap off proceedings. Pupils, parents, and members of the community were invited to join the school in a ‘Night of Science’. Staff and pupils ran stalls on various topics including animal organ systems, the history of medicine and acids and bases. Mr. Lawlor and Mr Atkin put on a fantastic performance of science explaining the role of combustion in everyday life.

Various organisations supported our evening with Beamish Museum bringing Victorian science demonstrations and Animal Stories providing an interactive animal workshop. Extra-curricular activities, demonstrations and promotion of careers ran all week in school thanks to funding from the Science Learning Partnership (SLP), which is led by Cardinal Hume Catholic School. Our SLP is part of a national network of SLPs co-ordinated by STEM Learning. We combine local expertise in teaching and learning in science, facilitating CPD, and providing school-to-school support. Please contact the school if interested in any opportunities offered by the SLP.
