Girls Network inspires the next generation
We have been very fortunate to have been able to hold three workshops with the Girls’ Network for a group of 18 girls in Year 10. The Girls’ Network is a national charity which seeks to educate young women about equality, create opportunities to meet inspiring women working in different contexts, including male dominated industries, and empower them with confidence as they consider their own futures.
In the first workshop, the girls learnt about developing a personal brand, and how to value themselves highly as they were presented with facts about women in the workplace past and present. All of the girls took part with enthusiasm in the activities to develop their knowledge in these areas, including discussions about inspiring women today fighting for gender equity.
In the second workshop the girls learnt about how to build confidence, and the value in raising the confidence of others to support a more equitable society. In the final workshop they met four inspiring women with very different careers, who spoke about their experiences as young women navigating through education and the world of work. The girls put them through their paces with some questions which they answered with complete honesty! The girls were a credit to themselves and the Girls’ Network mentors were highly impressed with them all.
