Bringing Literature to Life at Beamish!

Our Year 9 and Year 10 students recently enjoyed fantastic educational visits to Beamish Museum, bringing their English Literature studies to life through immersive enquiries into An Inspector Calls and A Christmas Carol.
Year 9 students stepped back into the Edwardian era, interviewing costumed characters as part of their investigation into the death of Eva Smith from An Inspector Calls. Throughout the day, they showcased excellent knowledge of the text, asked insightful questions and fully immersed themselves in the activities.
Year 10 students explored Victorian society, gaining a deeper understanding of the social conditions and attitudes that shape Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. As part of their challenge, students visited local businesses in an attempt to raise money for the poor. Their journey eventually led them to a solicitor who was less than willing to donate – much to their frustration and in a way that reflected Scrooge’s attitude at the beginning of the novel!
Both year groups embraced the opportunity to learn in a unique and engaging setting, and the beautiful weather was an added bonus.
We are incredibly proud of all students for their curiosity, enthusiasm and exemplary conduct throughout the visits. Well done to everyone involved!
