Year 6 Transition to Secondary School

Dear Parent/Guardian,

I am delighted that your child will be joining us in Year 7 in September.   This is a very exciting and challenging time for your child, and to help them to feel comfortable and secure about their transfer from primary to secondary school, an extensive Transition Programme is planned for the summer term.

In the current difficult circumstances we must prioritise the safety and wellbeing of all in our school community. Please be assured that despite the current limitations we will do everything possible to ensure a smooth and happy transition for your child and we are working with colleagues across the Local Authority to achieve this.

Resources to support families during Y6/7 transition will be made available on our Learning portal after the Easter break. These will include recorded curriculum lessons and pastoral sessions to introduce your child to our school community and to welcome them.  Each Friday a Transition section will be published in our Parents Bulletin – you can find this on our school website.

I’m sure you will have lots of questions over the coming months but please rest assured that we shall do everything we can to support you and your child during this important time.  We will be back in touch with you as soon as possible with further information, which will include our Transition Information Handbook, Enrolment & Consent forms, information about how to apply for our Summer School, details about purchasing school uniform/PE Kit along with further arrangements for the Transition days.   In the meantime, please keep an eye on our website.

May I take this opportunity to wish you and your family well at this challenging time. We look forward to welcoming you to Cardinal Hume soon.

Yours sincerely

Mrs R. L. Flint

Assistant Headteacher
