Year 13 – The Youth Village, Consett

10th November 2017

Dear Parent/Guardian

Year 13 Retreat Thursday 30th November to Friday 1st December @ The Youth Village, Consett

I am delighted to inform you that your son/daughter has been invited to attend a Year 13 Retreat as part of their final year journey at Cardinal Hume Catholic School. The aim of the retreat is to give our young people the chance to de-stress and refocus themselves for the upcoming final exam pressures on the way to the next chapter in their lives.

The retreat will revolve around the importance of the spiritual aspect of our lives and how a good balance between the material and the spiritual can enable us to be successful beyond our own expectations. There will be a number of activities such as team building; big and small group activities; outdoor activities; time for prayer and reflection and a quiz, led by the Youth Ministry Team at the Youth Village in Consett.  The retreat will run from 2pm on Thursday 30th November with an overnight stay and a return to school on Friday 1st December at approximately 1.30pm. Students will be registered in school on Thursday and then taken to and from the Youth Village by bus.

Students will need to take a towel, their own toiletries and appropriate clothing for outdoor activities (weather permitting). Students will not be expected to wear uniform but a casual/smart dress code is expected. All rooms have an ensuite shower and lunch, dinner and breakfast will be provided for the students. The cost of the event, courtesy of Headteacher Nick Hurn, is free to our students and it really is a once in a lifetime opportunity not be missed.

Please complete the reply slip below and the consent forms attached and return to school by Friday 17th November to secure a place.  If you have any further queries regarding the retreat please do not hesitate to contact me at the school by phone on 0191 4877638 Extension 165 or by email

Yours faithfully

Mr Damian McCann
