U15 football County Cup Success

Cardinal Hume 4 Dyke House 1.

Huge congratulations go to Mr Kiernan’s U15 football team who won their 3rd trophy of the season to win the Londonderry county cup with a magnificent 4 -1 win against Dyke House School from Hartlepool.

In what was a very evenly balanced game, we took the lead early in the match when Jake scored with a well taken free kick from 25 yards. Building in confidence from this we soon went 2-0 up when Jason pounced on a bouncing ball in the box to head past the opposition keeper.  Dyke House gradually grew into the game and scored a goal their pressure deserved with a good finish from their pacey striker on the stroke of half time.

Dyke House started the second half very strongly, but a very well organised defence managed to keep opposition chances to a minimum. As the game wore on we grew in confidence and restored our two goal lead with an opportunist strike from Jack.  Soon after, James added a well taken fourth goal to take the game beyond our opponents.

Although the match was a lot closer than the score line suggests, there is no doubt that we were full value for our success.

Once again we would like to say a huge thank you for the tremendous support from the large number of our staff and parents who turned up in support.

The team now go on to aim for an unprecedented 4th trophy of the season on Friday evening when they play Whickham School in the Gateshead Schools cup final.

Mr Garraghan
