Dear Parents/Carers

We are really looking forward to welcoming all the children back to school and appreciate that some of our young people will be feeling a little anxious.  Please be assured that we will offer all the support possible to ensure a smooth return to school.

Here are a few quick reminders in preparation for all students returning to school:

Please use this link as a reminder for the lateral flow testing timetable for all students  https://tinyurl.com/ynsx264v.

Children must arrive at student entrance 5 minutes before their allocated time.  There should be no food/drinks consumed 30mins prior to the test.  Students must be in school uniform and bring a pen.  Only students who appear on the Consent Register will be tested and consent can be withdrawn at any time.

A positive lateral flow test will result in the child, and their household, having to isolate for 10 days.

Students who have tested positive with Covid in the last 90 days will receive an additional letter prior to the start of the lateral flow testing.  In addition to this, we are asking all families to report any incidents of international travel in recent weeks.

Lateral flow testing does not reduce the need for social distancing and the additional hygiene measures that have been in place for some time.  All students will be continually reminded of the importance of face masks, handwashing and distance from others.  We continue to encourage pupils to bring their own hand-sanitiser and wipes if they wish but there are supplies in every classroom.

Students will return to their normal timetable in a staggered way.  There will be additional Pastoral sessions with their tutors at the start of every day to ensure all the pupils feel supported and prepared to resume face to face teaching.  Students must continue to access work on the Portal until their return to school.

Next week, the kitchens will be open for lunch only so students may wish to bring a snack from home for breaktime.  Full kitchen service will resume week beginning the 15th March.  The water coolers continue to be unavailable, so a prefilled water bottle is required.  ParentPay is encouraged to load money onto lunch cards to avoid unnecessary contact with the cash machines.  The ParentPay can be found on our school website.

If students are absent from school, we continue to ask parents to ring the Student Absence line (0191 4877638 ext 1101) and leave a message.

If the absence is Covid related, it will be followed up by a call to gather additional information to allow for any contact tracing to be carried out by school.  Information on the completion of work during an isolation period will also be given.

The lateral flow testing is for students who are not showing Covid symptoms.  If students have:

  • a new/continuous cough
  • a high temperature
  • and/or a change in their sense of taste or smell

They must isolate and seek a test via the NHS Test and Trace website/app.

If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact the school office.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs A Riley

Deputy Headteacher
