In memory of Tomasz
As a school community we came together last week to celebrate the life of our dearly missed student, Tomasz Olezak. Its hard to believe it has been a whole year but it has been amazing to see the support and care our students and staff have shown to one another, in light of such tragic circumstances. To mark the anniversary, the school gathered in prayer and held a memorial service which enabled each student to light a special candle in memory of their friend.
Prayers were read by the year 11 House Captains and a reflection was given by his tutor that really summed up the wonderful star that he was. A special memorial prayer card was made for each student with pupils and staff presenting their own prayers and tributes in the school atrium.
Tomasz was a big football enthusiast, and the school was able to share a personalised video message from Alan Shearer as part of the service. He reminded all the students of the importance of living your lives to the full and being the best version of yourself. This is the best way to honour Tomasz. He shared a lovely quote from Nelson Mandela ‘Sometimes it falls on a generation to be great, you are that generation so let your light shine’.
An inter house football competition also took place with the trophy presented by Tomasz’ Mam, Dad and little brother Kuba. This will be presented in his name every year as we remember him and keep him always in our thoughts and prayers.
