This risk assessment is underpinned by government guidance on Covid-19 for the return to full school opening from 8th March 2021 Schools Coronavirus (COVID-19) Operational Guidance  February 2021 and subsequent update 24th May 2021.  It takes account of any advice or requirement from Public Health officials in response to local circumstances.  This risk assessment explains how the School will assess and manage the risks for children and staff attending under these regulations.

This risk assessment shows how we, as a school and employer, will meet our  legal duty to protect people from harm. We will  take reasonable steps to protect staff, pupils and others from coronavirus (COVID-19) within our school. We will  implement sensible and proportionate control measures which follow the health and safety hierarchy of controls to reduce the risk to the lowest reasonably practicable level.  We will review and update our  risk assessment at least every 2 weeks and more frequently if the circumstances at our school or the public health advice  changes or if the monitoring and review of the effectiveness of our controls and procedures show that any change is required.

This risk assessment is available to staff and health and safety representatives and they are notified when any updates are made and of the outcomes of any review of the effectiveness of our controls and procedures.

Public health advice to minimise coronavirus (COVID-19) risks: Hierarchy of Controls

Our risk assessment will  address the risks identified using the system of controls set out below. These are an adapted form of the system of protective measures that will be familiar from previous risk assessments,  for example those written to support the full return to education in September 2020.  By following the system of controls, we will effectively reduce risks in our school  and create an inherently safer environment.  The essential actions and measures  given in the system of controls are as follows:

 

1) Minimise contact with individuals who are required to self-isolate by ensuring they do not attend the school.

2) Ensure face coverings are used in recommended circumstances.

3) Ensure everyone is advised to clean their hands thoroughly and more often than usual.

4) Ensure good respiratory hygiene for everyone by promoting the ‘catch it, bin it, kill it’ approach.

5) Maintain enhanced cleaning, including cleaning frequently touched surfaces often, using standard products such as detergents.

6) Consider how to minimise contact across the site and maintain social distancing wherever possible.

7) Keep occupied spaces well ventilated.

8) Ensure individuals wear the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) where necessary.

9) Promote and engage in asymptomatic testing, where available.

10) Promote and engage with the NHS Test and Trace process.

11) Manage and report confirmed cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) amongst the school community.

12) Contain any outbreak by following local health protection team advice

 

To show clearly how these actions are executed and these measures are considered, the sections in our risk assessment below correspond to these headings.

Mitigation against the spread of coronavirus 1) minimise contact with individuals who are unwell by ensuring that those who have coronavirus (COVID-19) symptoms, or who have someone in their household who does, do not attend school School will follow the following process; all staff must be aware of it:

If they have tested positive whilst not experiencing symptoms but develop symptoms during the isolation period, they should restart the 10-day isolation period from the day they develop symptoms.

ii.            Other circumstances.

Pupils, staff and other adults must not come into the school if they are required to quarantine having recently visited countries outside the Common Travel Area or if anyone in their household, support bubble or childcare bubble has coronavirus symptoms or has tested positive.   Anyone told to isolate by NHS Test and Trace must also do so.

A positive test is either a positive LFD or PCR test.  A positive LFD test is disregarded if a confirmatory PCR test is negative.

For i.  and ii. above the pupil, member of staff or other adult should not attend school and should isolate for 10 days,  starting from the day after the positive test or the development of symptoms.

Development of coronavirus symptoms in school.

If anyone in the school becomes unwell with a new and persistent cough or a high temperature, or has a loss of or change in, their normal sense of taste or smell (anosmia), they must be sent home and advised to follow guidance for households with possible or confirmed coronavirus (COVID-19) infection, which sets out that they should self-isolate for at least 10 days and should arrange to have a test to see if they have coronavirus (COVID-19).

Other members of their household (including any siblings, childcare and support bubbles) should self-isolate for 10 days from the day after the individual tested positive or developed symptoms. If a member of the household starts to display symptoms while self isolating they will need to restart the 10 day isolation period and book a test.

Other scenarios.

The school will work with and take the advice of Public Health England in relation to other scenarios that arise, but a response process is not specifically defined in the government guidance.

All staff made aware of the procedure for removing and isolating a pupil who develops symptoms.

Alternative transport will be arranged for any student who would use public transport.

If a child is awaiting collection by parents, they will be moved to a room where they can be isolated behind a closed door and the room given as much ventilation as possible.

Where direct adult supervision is necessary, a two-metre distance will be maintained. If a distance of two metres can not be maintained, suitable PPE will be used (see PPE section). Everyone must wash their hands thoroughly for 20 seconds with soap and running water or use hand sanitiser after any contact with someone who is unwell.

If a symptomatic individual needs to go to the bathroom while waiting to be collected, they will use a separate bathroom. The bathroom will be cleaned and disinfected using standard cleaning products before being used by anyone else.

Close contact with someone with coronavirus (COVID-19) symptoms

Any member of staff who has provided close contact care to someone with symptoms, regardless of whether they are wearing PPE, and all other members of staff or pupils who have been in close contact with that person, do not need to go home to self-isolate unless:

• the symptomatic person subsequently tests positive

• they develop symptoms themselves (in which case, they should self-isolate immediately and arrange to have a test)

• they are requested to do so by NHS Test and Trace or the Public Health England (PHE) advice service (or PHE local health protection team if escalated)

• they have tested positive from an LFD or PCR test

Again, a positive test is either a positive LFD or PCR test.  A positive LFD test is disregarded if a confirmatory PCR test is negative.

As is usual practice, in an emergency, 999 will be called if someone is seriously ill or injured or their life is at risk.

Temperature checks carried out by reception staff:

·         on all visitors to school

·         on pupils who display or report symptoms

·         on staff who display or report symptoms

PHE flow charts outline how schools must respond to cases/suspected cases. Senior Leaders will follow these guidelines in responding to suspected/confirmed cases.

Clinically extremely vulnerable children and staff – guidance from DfE 10.05.21

Children

Shielding is suspended from 01.04.21 and clinically extremely vulnerable pupils should attend school from that date unless they have received a letter from their GP or clinician telling them not to do so.

Staff

From 01.04.21 shielding is suspended and individuals who are clinically extremely vulnerable (they will have received a letter) are advised to continue to work from home if they are able to do so.  However if they are not able to do so they should attend school.

Further guidance to the clinically extremely vulnerable is available.

Clinically vulnerable staff can continue to attend school. While in school they should follow the sector-specific measures in this document to minimise the risks of transmission.

People who live with those who are clinically vulnerable or clinically extremely vulnerable can attend the workplace but should ensure they maintain good prevention practice in the workplace and home settings.

Staff should speak to  Bev Davies or their  line manager if they would like to discuss the above guidance, or if there is an additional support they need.

Pregnancy.  Pregnant staff  are considered clinically vulnerable and should follow the advice above.   As part of the general risk assessment for pregnancy, breast-feeding and recent mothers any  risks related to these conditions will be assessed and we will  follow the advice in the guidance:  Coronavirus (COVID-19): advice for pregnant employees.    The same principles will apply to any other members of the school community.

2) Where recommended, use of face coverings in schools

 

In line with local Public Health advice and regulations, students must wear face coverings in communal spaces in school, for example corridors, toilets and the atrium.  Face coverings may be removed for lessons where alternative precautions will be in place.

Face coverings will be worn when queueing for lessons, toilets, lunch and buses and during break and lunch times, except when consuming food and drink.

Students may wear face coverings on the yard at break and lunch, if they wish, as well as when they arrive at and depart from school, although it is not a requirement to wear face coverings outside.  As stated in the section on Transport below, face coverings on buses (dedicated scholars’ services and public buses) are obligatory.

The school’s process for putting on and removing face coverings will be clearly communicated and more bins put in place for their safe disposal:

·         Pupils must cleanse their hands before and after putting on or taking off a face covering.

·         Pupils must be instructed not to touch the front of their face covering during use or when putting on or removing them.

·         They must dispose of temporary face coverings in a covered bin

·         They must place reusable face coverings in a plastic bag they can take home with them, and then wash their hands again before heading to their classroom.

Staff Protection Measures

Face coverings should be worn by staff in any context where it is not possible to remain 2m or more from others.

3) clean hands thoroughly more often than usual

 

Coronavirus (COVID-19) is an easy virus to kill when it is on skin. This can be done with soap and running water or hand sanitiser. School will ensure that pupils clean their hands regularly, including when they arrive at school, when they return from breaks, when they change rooms and before and after eating. Regular and thorough hand cleaning is going to be needed for the foreseeable future and the following measures are in place to ensure this can be managed in school:

·         Hand sanitiser station fitted in every classroom and several fitted in other areas of the school.

·         Pupils made to sanitise hands at the start  of every lesson, at the end of any lesson before break/lunch and at the end of the school day.

·         Pupils will be permitted to bring their own hand sanitiser to school.

·         Pupils can request to use the toilet during lesson time and toilets areas supervised throughout the day.

·         After a visit to the toilet, all pupils will wash hands with soap and water for 20 seconds.

·         Pupils/staff must wash their hands thoroughly for 20 seconds with soap and running water or use hand sanitiser after any contact with someone who is unwell.

All young people are now encouraged to bring a personal supply of hand sanitiser.

4) ensure good respiratory hygiene by promoting the ‘catch it, bin it, kill it’ approach The school will ensure that they have enough tissues and bins available in the school to support pupils and staff to follow this routine.

5) introduce enhanced cleaning, including cleaning frequently touched surfaces often, using standard products such as detergents and bleach

 

The school is putting in place a cleaning schedule that ensures cleaning is generally enhanced, with a team of cleaners now working throughout the school day:

·         more frequent cleaning of rooms/shared areas that are used by different groups; cleaning of each teaching room will occur 10-12 times per day during the course of the school day.

·         Dining areas cleaned between sittings of different groups

·         frequently touched surfaces will cleaned more often than normal; a full team of cleaners will routinely clean an allocated section of the school throughout the school day.

·         toilets will be cleaned mor regularly, and pupils required  to clean their hands thoroughly after using the toilet.

·         The area around any person with symptoms will be closed to other staff/pupils and cleaned thoroughly after they have left.

·         Cleaning staff will be provided with the following PPE: mask, gloves and apron.

·         Cleaning materials will be available in every classroom for use by any member of staff who wishes to use them.

·         Pupils will be permitted to bring surface wipes from home to use on desks at the start of lessons.

  • The use of computers is essential in the delivery of the curriculum in some subjects. Alcohol-based surface wipes will be available in all rooms with computers and pupils will be required to sanitise them after they have been used. The cleaning schedule will also be further enhanced with computers sanitised directly after use, whenever possible.
  • To allow the cleaning team to carry out their work and to minimise numbers on site, we are encouraging staff to vacate the site as soon as is reasonably possible at the end of the school day and work from home where possible
  •  For individual and very frequently used equipment, such as pencils and pens, staff and pupils will have their own items that are not shared. Classroom based resources, such as books and games, will be cleaned regularly, along with all frequently touched surfaces. Resources that are shared between groups, such as sports, art and science equipment will be cleaned frequently and meticulously and always between groups, or rotated to allow them to be left unused and out of reach for a period of 48 hours (72 hours for plastics) between use by different bubbles.

6) minimise contact between individuals and maintain social distancing wherever possible

 

The school will do everything possible to minimise contacts and mixing while delivering a broad, ambitious and balanced curriculum. As far as possible, and where practical, students will be grouped in small numbers, and students and staff required to maintain a safe but realistic distance from other people.

Teachers and other staff will operate across different classes and year groups in order to facilitate the delivery of the school timetable, with the following actions designed to minimise contacts between individuals:

  • As far as possible, teachers will be based in a fixed room and pupils will move to them for lessons. This will allow: a) adequate specialist resourcing b) teachers available at fixed duty points to supervise pupil movement c) pupils to be fully supervised in classrooms and public areas throughout the day d) adults to avoid movement to a wide range of areas of the school.
  • Shorter lessons of 45 minutes are necessary to allow staggered changeovers.
  • Strict and clear one-way system for distanced movement between lessons.
  • Morning registration time extended to allow a staggered start to the day.
  • Common setting across Key Stage 3 will mean that all pupils are in a consistent group for all lessons; the maximum teaching group size in Years 7, 8 and 9 will be 32.
  • Lunchtimes will be staggered, ensuring that only a single year group will have lunch at any one time. Therefore, the school will operate year-group sized ‘bubbles’. All students will be encouraged to maintain their distance from others in all non-structured parts of the day.
  • At key stage 4 and key stage 5, the group size will be restricted to the size of a year group to enable the school to deliver the full range of curriculum subjects and to ensure students receive specialist teaching.
  • Contacts between individuals from different year groups, for instance during lesson changeover, will be minimised and not exceed 15 minutes in length.
  • All classrooms will be arranged so that they are forward facing, in areas where this is possible
  • Teaching delivery style will be distanced and from the front of the class whenever possible. Pupils will use exercise books, folders and specialist resources. There will be restrictions on resource use in practical subjects outlined in Subject Area Risk Assessments. Additional safety measures in place during lessons are outlined in the document ‘Cardinal Hume Catholic School Guidelines for Socially Distanced Teaching’.
  • The number of staff on duty in public areas throughout the day will be increased.
  • School signage will be greatly enhanced to support distanced pupil movement around school.
  • Large gatherings, such as assemblies or collective worship involving more than one group will be subject to individual risk assessment
  •  A separate Risk Assessment is available for formal examinations and is constructed by reference to the DfE publication Public Health Arrangements for Autumn Exams.
  • The school will limit interaction between year groups and ensure rooms are only used by pupils from one year group at a time.
  • Staff will inevitably teach different classes and year groups. They will keep 2m  distance from pupils as much as they possibly can; where this is not possible additional hygiene measures such as the wearing of face coverings will provide mitigation.
  • While passing briefly in the corridor or playground is low risk, the school will avoid creating busy corridors, entrances and exits. As such, up to 15 minutes of each lesson will be dedicated to safe and staggered pupil movement.
  • Changes to the school behaviour policy are necessary to ensure pupils’ conduct themselves safely. These will be communicated regularly to staff and pupils and rigidly implemented.

Morning Break – wet weather

  • Year 7 students go straight to the main hall. Students sanitise their hands on entry and take a seat filling in from the back of the hall. All students are facing forward. Students are equally spaced out.
    This will always be the arrangement for Year 7 and therefore they will be the only year group to use the main hall.
  • Year 8 students stand in the atrium space.
  • Year 9 students seated in the dining hall.
    The Year 8 & 9 arrangement will alternate so that the system is fair to both

  • Year 11 students seated in the dining hall.

Lunchtime – wet weather

  • Year 7 students (finish P3 at 12pm) collect their lunch and then go straight to the main hall – this process must be completed before 12.15. Students sanitise their hands on the way in and then take a seat, filling in from the back of the hall. All students are facing forward. Students are equally spaced out.
  • Year 8 students assemble in the atrium space. Students are invited, by house group, to queue up and collect their lunch. They then return to the atrium space to eat their food. Benches provided for seating if required.
  • Year 9 students assemble and sit in the dining hall. Students are invited, by house group, to queue up and collect their lunch once the process for year 8 has been completed. They then return to their seat to eat their food. Students adhere to the max seating capacity of each table.
    The Year 8 & 9 arrangement will alternate so that the system is fair to both but the arrangement for year 7 will remain the same.
  • Year 10 students assemble in the atrium space. Students are invited, by house group, to queue up and collect their lunch. They then return to the atrium space to eat their food. Benches provided for seating if required.

·         Lunch times and break times are split to allow separate bubbles for KS3 and KS4 and separation within year  groups and between students

•      Staff will keep,  wherever possible,  2m from each other and from students.  Additional hygiene measures such as face coverings will be in place where 2m distancing is not possible.

•      Students will be seated facing forwards or outwards

•      While the risk of passing briefly in corridors or entrances is low, especially given reduced student population,  this will be reduced further by a staged dismissal and entry and end and beginning of

days.

Equipment and Resources.  Students will use their own personal frequently used equipment,  for example pens, pencils, rulers and other items on the school equipment list.  They will not share these items.   Classroom resources will be cleaned after use.  Any items shared between bubbles or groups will be cleaned between uses or left for 48 hours (72 hours for plastics).

 Staff Protection Measures

 

To protect themselves and others and to minimise the risk of close contact,  staff will maintain a distance of 2m  between each other at all time and from students where possible. 

Face coverings will be worn where 2m distancing is not possible.

 

 

Minimising contacts in meetings and other interactions – key markers for reducing contacts

 

·         During the period of increased local transmission, meetings should be held remotely where possible.  If a meeting has to take place face-to-face,  strict 2m distancing must be maintained.

·         Avoid travelling in the same vehicle

For staff working individually

  • Department workrooms and shared offices will have maximum occupancy numbers  to ensure a distance of 2 metres is maintained.
  • Staff should use open spaces and desk areas around the school if possible, such as the atrium.
  • A list of free rooms will be available to make full use of all available staff and to maximise distancing to the extent the building allows. Free classrooms have a maximum occupancy of 6, when used for the purpose of staff desk work. A distance of 2 metres should be maintained.
  • Staff with office bases should adhere to  social distancing when hosting meetings and not exceed maximum occupancy.  Meetings should be held remotely where possible.
  • Additional offices and workspaces will be set up around the school for non-teaching staff.

 

LSA student support:

 

  • Keep a 2m distance where possible.
  • Sanitise hands before and after touching books.
  • Leave doors and windows open when working in SEN classrooms.
  • Wear a face covering  if needed to work in close proximity with pupils (within 2m)
  • Do not share equipment with pupils.

 

Visitors to school

 

As part of the induction and welcome guidance will be given on physical distancing, face masks  and hygiene.   Sufficient records will be kept to support NHS Test and Trace if required.  Staff intending to welcome visitors to school should discuss planning with ARY to ensure appropriate arrangements can be made.

7) Always keeping occupied spaces well ventilated During the colder weather,  background ventilation will be provided in occupied rooms by opening windows slightly.   When rooms are unoccupied and between lessons,  windows will be opened fully.

Air conditioning systems will be set to draw in fresh air.

Internal doors will be kept open to promote air circulation.   External doors will be open during breaks and lunchtimes,  with due consideration of any fire safety safeguarding issues.    SLT staff on Tour will occupy the Atrium to mitigate against any safeguarding risk as the result of external doors being open.

To maintain comfortable working conditions,  students will be reminded to wear warm underclothing.   Seating positions in direct draughts will be avoided and high level windows opened in preference to low.

8) where necessary, wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)

 

 

Please see section 2 for information on face coverings.

 

The majority of staff in school will not require PPE beyond what they would normally need for their work. PPE is only needed in a very small number of cases, including:

  • where an individual child or young person becomes ill with coronavirus (COVID-19) symptoms while at schools, and only then if a distance of 2 metres cannot be maintained
  • where a child or young person already has routine intimate care needs that involve the use of PPE, in which case the same PPE should continue to be used

 

All cleaning staff will be provided with PPE and required to wear it throughout the school day.

 

PPE will be well stocked and replenished regularly, as necessary.

 

Staff made aware of the occasions when PPE should be used in school. Please see the PPE matrix for information about when PPE should be used.

 

Examination Invigilators will be supplied with full PPE and given guidance and instruction on appropriate use according to separate risk assessment for Mock Examinations

We will ensure that staff members and parents and carers understand that they will need to be ready and willing to:

 

• book a PCR test if they or their child are displaying symptoms. Staff and pupils must not come into the school if they have symptoms and must be sent home to self-isolate if they develop them in school as described in section 1 above.

11) manage confirmed cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) amongst the school community

 

We will ask parents of children attending school and staff to inform us immediately of the results of any tests taken outside school and follow the  guidance below:

1. If someone with symptoms tests negative for coronavirus (COVID-19), then they should stay at home until they are recovered as usual from their illness but can safely return thereafter. The only exception to return following a negative test result is where an individual is separately identified as a close contact of a confirmed case, when they will need to self-isolate for 10 days from the date of that contact.

2. If someone with symptoms tests positive, they should follow the guidance for households with possible or confirmed coronavirus (COVID-19) infection and must continue to self-isolate for at least 10 days from the onset of their symptoms and then return to school only if they do not have symptoms other than cough or loss of sense of smell/taste. This is because a cough or anosmia can last for several weeks once the infection has gone. The 10-day period starts from the day after  they first became ill. If they still have a high temperature, they should continue to self-isolate until their temperature returns to normal. Other members of their household should all self-isolate for the full 10 days from the day after the individual tested positive

 

 

If the health protection team advise that individuals or groups of pupils need to be sent home to self-isolate, we will implement this advice swiftly.

 

The school will keep a record of who has had contact within year group ‘bubbles’ to support this process.  This will be a reasonable and proportionate process but will allow tracing of close contacts:

·         face-to-face contact including being coughed on or having a face-to-face conversation within one metre

• been within one metre for one minute or longer without face-to-face contact

• been within 2 metres of someone for more than 15 minutes (either as a one-off

contact, or added up together over one day)

• travelled in the same vehicle or a plane

 

Further guidance is available on testing and tracing for coronavirus (COVID-19) through the dedicated advice service introduced by PHE, which can be reached through the DfE helpline on 0800 046 8687, or their PHE local health protection team if escalated.

In order to mitigate against financial hardship, both for school staff who may have to self isolate and for parents and carers of self-isolating students, we will

·         Provide staff identified as close contacts of a positive case will require an NHS Test and Trace Account ID number (CTAS number) to be able to claim a Test and Trace Support Payment or discretionary payment.   We will

o    Collate a list of appropriate close contacts for the person who has tested positive within your establishment and inform these close contacts that they now need to self-isolate.

o    Call the service hub on 020 3743 6715 as soon as we have the 8-digit NHS Test and Trace Account ID (sometimes referred to as a CTAS number) of the person who has tested positive.

o    Provide the details of the person who has tested positive, along with the details of the relevant staff members we have identified as close contacts.

·         Provide parents and carers of self-isolating children  with a letter to support their application for payment.  When a parent or guardian applies to the Test and Trace Support Payment scheme because they need to care for a child who is self-isolating, their local authority will be required to contact their child’s school via phone or email to verify information about the child.  We will supply the necessary information to the local authority.

The curriculum should remain broad and ambitious: all pupils continue to be taught a wide range of subjects, maintaining their choices for further study and employment. ·         Full curriculum timetable planned with adjustments to lesson times, grouping and the school day to mitigate against Covid-19.

Contingency planning for further closure through localised lockdown, national restrictions or school outbreak Remote education, where needed, should be quality and align as closely as possible with in-school provision

Pupil interactions before and after school

 

Face coverings are required at all times on public transport and dedicated school transport for children over the age of 11.

The school will support with appropriate advice measures to mitigate against transmission outside of school time. We will ensure that pupils are educated about the risks and the steps they can take to keep themselves and others safe.

·         High standards of uniform retained so that they are more easily identified outside school.

·         Key principles communicated regularly: ‘catch it, bin it, kill it’, handwashing, minimising contacts.

·         Work closely with public transport providers to plan safe use of bus services

·         Transport survey provided to parents; findings used to plan additional transport needs.

·         Pupils encouraged to avoid use of public transport if possible.

School meals ·         The school has made adaptations to lunch arrangements and timings for pupils so that separation of bubbles is maintained and distancing within bubbles is kept.

·         Enhanced cleaning will take place  between sittings.

·         Year groups will have break/lunch time together. Dining time will be restricted to 15 minutes. Time in larger spaces will be up to 45 minutes and pupils will be encouraged to keep their distance from other individuals and follow a ‘don’t touch others’ approach.

Educational and Cultural Visits  Schools can resume educational day visits from 12 April.

 

We will conduct these  in line with relevant coronavirus (COVID-19) secure guidelines and regulations, including system of controls, such as keeping children within their consistent groups and the COVID-secure measures in place at the destination.

 

We will undertake full and thorough risk assessments in relation to all educational visits to ensure they can be undertaken safely. As part of this risk assessment, we will  consider what control measures need to be used and follow wider advice on visiting indoor and outdoor venues. We will consult the health and safety guidance on educational visits when considering visits.

 

Schools can undertake domestic residential education visits, from 17 May.

Any domestic residential educational visits must be conducted in line with relevant COVID-19 guidance and regulations in place at that time. We will  keep children within their consistent groups (bubbles) for the purpose of the visit.

Risk assessment for residential educational visits

Annex C of DfE guidance 10.05.21 sets out the conditions that should be met when planning and undertaking a residential educational visit We will undertake full and thorough risk assessments in relation to all educational visits to ensure they can be undertaken safely.  We will consider the principles set out in the system of controls in annex C.

Given the likely gap in COVID-19 cancellation related insurance, we will ensure that any new bookings have adequate financial protection in place.

 

International visits.   Following DfE guidance 10.05.21,  we will not organise any international visits until at least 05.09.21 when new guidance will be published.

Visitors in school and other events ·         Staff considering welcoming visitors to school should check arrangements with ARY beforehand to determine whether the visit can go ahead.   Meetings should be arranged remotely where possible

If external visitors come to the school,  the following precautions will be in place:

·         Room capacity reduced and social distancing and additional hand sanitising in place for any meetings for external visitors.

·         Temperature checks carried out on all visitors.

·         A distance of 2m must be maintained.

Interviews will take place on-site with social distancing measures in place:

·         Tours of the school will be carried out in public areas only, where social distancing can be maintained. No candidates will visit lessons.

·         For teaching appointments, candidates will be observed teaching. At the start of the interview day, the Head Teacher or other suitable member of the panel will check that the lesson has been planned to include mitigation against contacts and social distancing. Observing staff will wear face coverings and will maintain distancing where possible.

·         All staff  and visitors will follow the arrangements for face coverings in section 2 above.

Risk assessment

Employers must protect people from harm. This includes taking reasonable steps to protect staff, pupils and others from coronavirus (COVID-19) within the education setting. As part of planning for full return, it is a legal requirement that schools should revisit and update their risk assessments (building on the learning to date and the practices they have already developed), to consider the additional risks and control measures to enable a return to full capacity. Settings should also review and update their wider risk assessments and consider the need for relevant revised controls in respect of their conventional risk profile considering the implications of coronavirus (COVID-19). Schools should ensure that they implement sensible and proportionate control measures which follow the health and safety hierarchy of controls to reduce the risk to the lowest reasonably practicable level.
