Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service has attended in excess of five anti-social behaviour fires in the Allerdene area of Gateshead in the last week.
It has been identified that the persons responsible on each occasion were youths and because of this they are contacting all local schools and parents in the area to ask for your help.
Do you know where your child is on an evening? Could we ask please that you remind your child of the consequences of starting fires, the implications for the fire service and the local community – they can’t be in two places at once and lives could be lost if a fire appliance is dealing with an anti-social fire.
Attacks on firefighters, whilst attending incidents, have increased in the Tyne and Wear area recently and this will not be tolerated.
Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service are working with Northumbria Police to resolve these issues, including reviewing CCTV footage from the cameras which are fitted on all fire appliances.
Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service and Northumbria Police take such incidents very seriously and are disappointed at having to contact local schools and parents to inform them of the actions of some local young people.
Thanks for your support.
