The Quadruple!

sporting achievement

Congratulations go to our year 10 football team who last night won the Gateshead school’s cup by overcoming a spirited Whickham side by 4 goals to 3. This win means the team have achieved an amazing quadruple already having won the Gateshead league and both county cups.

In what was always a very close encounter, Callum’s goal midway through the first half was cancelled out by two Whickham goals just before half time. Not to be outdone, the lads started the second half brightly and soon drew level with Callum hitting his second goal of the game. Whickham, however, continued to be a threat and took the lead with 25 minutes to go. For a time the lads lost their shape and were playing without their usual flair. Realising, however, that the unprecedented goal of four trophies in one season was one to really fight for. The football started to flow again and Andrew leveled the game with a cool finish from close range. There was no stopping the team now and after a spell of pressure Jake scored a fine winner with an angled drive from just inside the box.

This really has been a tremendous achievement from Mr Kiernan’s team having beaten their three trophy haul from last season and they can proudly say that they are the most successful team the school has had in its history.

As usual we would like to give a huge thank you to all parents and staff for their tremendous support throughout the year!
