IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR Y11

Dear Parent/Guardian and Student,

SIXTH FORM APPLICATION

If your son/daughter has expressed an interest in returning to the Sixth Form at Cardinal Hume Catholic School, they will be able to return if they succeed in achieving the appropriate required grades in the summer:

  • Grade B at GCSE in the subject they want to study at A Level
  • Merit or Distinction in the Vocational subject you are currently studying
  • A minimum of 5 A*-C grades at GCSE, including English language

In addition, some courses have specific requirements in terms of GCSE Maths and Science for entry.

To ensure their success in the Sixth Form they will be asked to sign a Student Learning Agreement that outlines the expectations we have of our Sixth Formers. Please see the school’s website for details of this document.  Please note the rules on Uniform, the expectation of 95% attendance and the 8.45am start to the school day required  in the Sixth Form.

16-19 Bursary

To be eligible to receive this you must apply successfully for Free School Meals.

To find out if you are entitled, log on to your Council’s website. You can also download an application form from here to complete and return to the Civic Centre. They will notify the school if you are entitled and we will use this information to award Bursary.

Wednesday 22nd June – SIXTH FORM INDUCTION DAY

8.45 am meet in the Main Hall – 3.15pm

  • If you are returning to the Sixth Form you must attend this Induction Day to find out more about the Sixth Form. There will be a range of different activities including a chance to sample the subjects you have already expressed an interest in and any others you need to find out about.
  • This day is also open to pupils who are unsure about whether to return to the Sixth Form and want to find out what it can offer them.
  • You do not need to wear uniform but do dress appropriately for school
  • Sixth Form Jumpers + Ties – can be ordered for September on-line. Please see the school’s website for more details.

THURSDAY 25th  AUGUST –  GCSE  RESULTS  DAY

10.00am –12.00 pm in the Atrium

  • RESULTS – GCSE and Vocational results will be available to collect.
  • If you are away on holiday and want your results posted to you, please give a STAMPED and ADDRESSED envelope to Mrs Sweeney (Exams Officer)in the Main Office before the start of the school summer holidays.

FRIDAY  26th AUGUST – SIXTH FORM REGISTRATION DAY

9.00am – 12.15pm in the Atrium

  • SIXTH FORM REGISTRATION –Once you have received your results we will register you for the Sixth Form courses you have already chosen. If your results were different from what you had expected we will advise you on the best courses for you. If you have changed your mind, or achieved better grades than predicted, and now wish to stay on in the Sixth Form we will also be there to give you advice.
  • You need to attend at the following times to register for the Sixth Form :

  • Parents and guardians are invited to attend this individual interview with their son/daughter. Please stick to the times indicated to ease congestion and help ensure you receive adequate time for your interview.
  • BRIDGING UNITS – students will also need to pick up a Bridging Unit of work for each subject they register for in the Sixth Form. These are to be completed by the student for the start of Y12 teaching, Monday 7th If a student has a problem with any of the work set they must see staff beforehand.
  • DOCUMENTATION-You will also be given the following documents to read and return signed at the start of term :

Sixth Form Behavioural Standards, Learning Agreement, Laptop Loan and ICT Acceptable Use Policy Letter + Consent Slip about Northumbria University visit on Friday 9th September

  • You will also be able to collect your pre-ordered Sixth Form jumper and tie from the Main Office at any time when the school is open during the last week of the holiday.

WEDNESDAY  7th SEPTEMBER – Y12 START SIXTH FORM

  • You will assemble in the Sixth Form at 8.45am to find out your new tutor and register with them
  • Please bring along signed DOCUMENTATION ( see above) and Consent Slip for the Northumbria University visit on 9/9/16
  • Uniform must be worn.
  • Thursday 8th September – please register with your tutor at 8.45am and bring all Bridging Units with you.
  • Friday 9th September- you will take part in a day of Activities at Northumbria University
  • You will start lessons on Monday 12th September
