Dear Parent/Carer,

Welcome to Cardinal Hume Catholic School’s website.  Whatever your interest in the school, we're delighted that you are taking the time to learn a little more about us. We have tried to make this site as easy and quick to navigate as possible. But when you have found what you need, spend a little more time with us and browse the site.

Our mission statement underpins everything we do and achieve in this school. We never forget that the person is at the heart of Christ’s teaching: This is why the promotion of the human person is and always will be the goal of this Catholic school. Our dedicated staff, supportive ethos and fantastic building and facilities enable us to provide an outstanding education which is academically rigorous and full of individual opportunities for students of all abilities, but is just as committed to moral and spiritual values. Cardinal Hume said shortly before he died: "If young people are to leave school fired with a wholesome moral vision and a sense of service, then it demands that an intelligent and critical moral awareness is cultivated and inspired by the teachers." Our school is a place of learning for enquiring minds who are constantly stimulated by their teachers and enjoy the challenges that learning can provide.

Catholic parents and parents from other faith traditions alike have chosen to send their children to Cardinal Hume Catholic School in increasing numbers because they want their children to attend an establishment with a robust spiritual and moral value system. Our school is a well-ordered community of learners where the structures are known, understood and respected. Our ethos provides the context where all individuals, pupils and staff, learn to trust each other, feel safe and have respect for authority.

Students who leave Cardinal Hume School carry with them a strong academic, moral and spiritual education. They enter the world as well developed individuals, having taken full advantage of the many opportunities afforded to them. Whether you are a parent or pupil, we are glad that you have chosen to become part of that journey.

Head Teacher: Mr. N Hurn

Cardinal Basil Hume

Born George Hume in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1923 to a Scottish father and French Catholic mother.
He is remembered for his work with the homeless, his love of football and for uniting his church to a
state of harmony not previously seen for 400 years.
